ESOS Phase 4Compliance deadline 5 December 2027 · qualification date 31 December 2026Check if you must comply →

ESOS for logistics, where transport energy is the whole point.

For a haulier or distributor, fuel is the biggest line on the energy bill, and transport energy is exactly where ESOS audits most often fall short. We audit your fleet and your warehousing properly, so you are compliant and you can see where the litres and kilowatt-hours are going.

Competence is a legal requirement

Audited by engineers who know your industry.

An ESOS audit has to be carried out and signed off by people competent to do it, and that is a legal requirement, not a nicety. For logistics & transport, that means a registered Lead Assessor and auditors who genuinely understand how your sector uses energy, rather than a generalist ticking boxes. Get the wrong team and the audit is neither compliant nor useful, which is why we run it as an engineering exercise built around your operation.

Your fleet and depots are audited end to end by registered ESOS Lead Assessors who treat transport energy as the main event.

Where the energy goes

Fuel savings across your fleet

ESOS explicitly covers buildings, transport and process. For logistics operators transport is usually the majority of total energy, so getting it right is the difference between a compliant audit and an exposed one.

01

Fleet fuel

HGVs, vans and company vehicles, typically the largest single share of your total energy, and the one most often estimated rather than measured.

02

Warehouse services

Lighting, heating and ventilation across large-volume space that runs long hours.

03

Cold chain

Refrigerated storage and transport, an energy-intensive load with real efficiency headroom.

04

Materials handling

Forklift and MHE charging, plus dock and conveyor equipment across depots.

Where we find savings

Where we typically find savings across a fleet and its depots.

Costed and ranked opportunities across both halves of your energy, the vehicles and the buildings they run out of.

Telematics & driver behaviour

Using fleet data to cut idling and improve fuel economy, with no capital outlay.

Route & load optimisation

Fewer empty miles and better-loaded vehicles, straight off your existing systems.

Fleet transition planning

A grounded view of alternative fuels and electrification, sequenced to vehicle replacement cycles.

Cold-store efficiency

Door management, controls and defrost strategy to cut refrigeration energy.

Warehouse LED & controls

High-bay LED with zoning and presence control across large-volume space.

MHE charging

Smarter forklift and MHE charging regimes and battery management.

Our process

Four steps. We do the heavy lifting.

From the first scoping call to the notification receipt, you have one point of contact and a price agreed up front against a scope we map with you.

01

Scope & quote

A short call and a desktop review to confirm you qualify and map every site, so we scope the work properly and agree a clear price against it.

02

Data & audit

We gather energy data and carry out the audits, buildings, processes and transport, with minimal disruption to your operation.

03

Report & sign-off

Your Lead Assessor compiles the report, ranks the savings, and provides the compliant sign-off for your director.

04

Notify & save

We submit your notification to the Environment Agency and leave you with a clear plan to act on the savings.

What you get

Compliance closed, and a return on the work.

ESOS isn't just a box to tick. Done properly, the audit pays for itself in the savings it uncovers.

Full ESOS audit report

A complete, compliant report covering 95%+ of your energy use, ready for the Environment Agency.

Ranked savings register

Every opportunity costed and ranked by payback, so you act on the ones that matter first.

Lead Assessor sign-off

Formal sign-off from a registered Lead Assessor and a director-ready compliance pack.

Environment Agency notification

We handle the notification submission end to end, and confirm your compliance is on record.

Net-zero head start

A baseline and data set that feed straight into your SECR and net-zero reporting.

A price agreed up front

Once your organisation is scoped, a clear price for the defined work. No open-ended day rates.

FAQs

Logistics & Transport ESOS, in plain English.

How do you audit transport energy?

From your fuel and mileage data, fuel-card records, telematics and vehicle lists. We turn that into a proper picture of transport energy by vehicle type and use, rather than the rough estimate many audits settle for. That is both what makes the audit compliant and what makes the savings findable.

We lease our vehicles, or use third-party hauliers, does that change things?

It changes the scoping, not the obligation. Energy from vehicles you operate counts, however they are financed; energy from genuinely third-party haulage is treated differently. Sorting out exactly what falls inside your ESOS boundary is part of the scoping call.

Our sites and vehicles are spread across the country, is that a problem?

No. We use a sampling approach for a dispersed estate and centralise the fleet analysis on your data, so a national operation does not mean visiting every depot or auditing every vehicle.

How do I know if ESOS applies to us?

ESOS applies to large UK undertakings and their corporate groups: broadly, 250 or more employees, or turnover over £44m and a balance sheet over £38m. If any company in a group qualifies, the whole group is in. The eligibility check on our homepage is the quickest way to find out.

What does it cost?

It depends on your scope: your sites, and how your energy splits across buildings, transport and process. That is what the free scoping call establishes, and we then agree a clear price for the defined work up front, with no open-ended day rates.
